On The Ledge Accent – Mica and Phil
Two dragonflies circle a lone flower above a substantial, 2.046kg, Phyllite Metamorphic base.
Name given to this piece for the cracks between layers of Phyllite, pronounced PHILITE, where Mica, another mineral, is beginning to form. They are also the names of the two displayed dragonflies, just for fun.
I should point out, Mica whispered to me that Phyllite prefers his nickname, Phil. He’s quite sensitive about it.
Leaf and stem copper has been chemically aged to create copper patina. Copper wings and flower petals have been coloured using automotive spray paint in a hydro-dipping technique. All 8 pieces of COPPER that make up the wings and petals in this piece were dipped simotaneously into the same bath of swirling paint.
Aluminum dragonfly bodies, to compliment Honda Radiant Silver paint used in the hydro-dipping of copper wings.
Hand beading 28-gauge copper wire allows for repositioning of stamens of floral centre.
Felt pads secured to high points on the underside to ensure no scratching to polished display surfaces.
