Memorial Driftwood Accent – “FALLEN HERO”

Incorporating driftwood personally collected from the shores of the Ottawa River, this is a powerful piece.

Cleaned and lightly sanded, raw,  silver sun-bleached, two driftwood finds are forever bonded as ground shelter.

The FALLEN HERO, symbolized by a single POPPY.  Two others, twisted with pain and unshed tears, silently mourn.

A pair of patina dragonflies; blood red flowing along the undersides of their wings; creeping almost imperceptibly along the upper edges, representing the effectiveness of pain containment.

Poppy petals – 2-mil copper; hammered; exterior of petals painted Tremclad brand ‘Fire Red’. Flower interiors remain bright copper.

Central organs – Lavastone beading stitched with 28-gauge copper wire.

Stems – Copper wire – 8-gauge

Fern-like Poppy leaves – Copper filigree dragonfly wings recycled from broken Tiffany-Style lampshade. (see photo)

Branded “Hazy Dayz Dragonflies, Sue Gibb” on underside of base. Rare marking as most driftwood accents are not flat.
