Sunny – Driftwood Accent
Originally named FREEDOM when made last week. My mind was too far into global politics on the day SUNNY was created. Lovely beach-themed piece was the result.
Three copper patina-winged, dragonflies happily hover around a driftwood base.
This driftwood was collected along the shores of The Ottawa River, May 2020, while I was social distancing one beautiful morning at sun-up. Air-dried for 6 months, allowing possible residents to vacate; meticulously cleaned and finished with a protective outdoor-grade clear water-base urethane.
I have developed my own copper solution using copper scraps, salt, and white vinegar. When combined with a healthy dollop of time and patience, it produces a finish that rivals but does not require the 30-year aging process for copper clad roofs such as those of Canada’s Parliament Buildings.
